MERIDEN CT December 17, 2004 ATLAS AERO CORPORATION, a division of Semco Instruments, Inc., is pleased to announce its official certification to AS9100 B from BSI, Inc., a member of the BSI Group, on behalf of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). After nearly one full year of preparation and a four-day audit, Atlas Aero has successfully been added to Semco Instruments existing certificate, number 356231. A copy of the certificate for purchasing or quality purposes is available at www.semcoinstruments.com on the Company Profile page.
"The implementation of the AS9100 Quality System is among numerous continuous process improvement efforts that were begun in February 2003," said Mike Moore, President of SEMCO INSTRUMENTS, INC. "Other significant improvements include the implementation of a state-of-the-art information system, CATIA design software, and the cellularizing of all manufacturing cells. All improvement efforts have been directed toward the achievement of total customer satisfaction."
The AS9100 standard, developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group, is based on the standard for ISO 9001:2000, but adds approximately 80 specific requirements that are critical for the aerospace sector. The ISO 9000:2000 family of standards, released in December 2000 as the successor to ISO 9000:1994, is an internationally recognized quality management system standard that was developed by ISO. AS9100 is the Quality Systems Aerospace Model for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing. AS9100 was developed using the ISO 9001, AS9000, and EN9000-1, and builds upon their requirements to produce a globally-harmonized standard that meets the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide. The first standard available for use across the global aerospace community, AS9100 adds the additional requirements necessary to address both civil and military aviation and aerospace needs.
